I touched base on the topic of mindset in email to my insiders this week. However, I feel as if it’s something that should be discussed more in depth because it affects all of us daily.
Mindset starts as soon as we wake up
A lot of us are not morning people. Personally, I have been a night owl for as long as I can remember. I used to dread waking up early every morning for school. One might think it would change the older I got. Yet, with age and transition into my career, it remained the same.
I began to notice a correlation between my mindset in the morning and my attitude throughout the rest of the day. Think about it. Because I know this happens to ALOT of us.
If I woke up in a sour mood, dreading Monday, the rest of the day turned out to be a reflection of that. Somehow it seemed that anything that could go wrong, would in fact, end up wrong. Based upon my mindset and attitude, of course my agitation would have a lower tolerance level that morning. I was literally setting myself up for failure.
On the flip side, whenever I was excited about an event the next day, I’d spring out of bed at the first ding of my alarm. I’d turn on my blutooth speaker as I was getting ready. Blaring the best playlist full of songs that kept my happiness and energy going.
Certainly, I understand we all won’t have thrilling things on our daily agendas to make us dash out of bed faster or with more excitement for that matter. Nevertheless, keep in mind that we are in control of how our mind thinks, how it reacts to situations and how we let our mood reflect our day.
What kind of day do you want to have?
By choosing to take action, we can forbid any negative thoughts upon waking up in the morning to launch our day. You’re bound to have a happier and more productive day when you start with positive or uplifting ideas.
Here are 15 steps we can take to adjust our mindset in the AM
- Wake up to a positive affirmation- read or recite to yourself
- Limit social media or checking your phone as soon as you wake up
- Write down 5 things you’re grateful for
- Complete a 5 minute meditation using the Calm app
- Stretch for 5 minutes
- Make a cup of joe or herbal tea
- Take 10 minutes to schedule your day so you’re prepared
- Set a daily goal
- Set up a relaxing or peaceful morning playlist
- Brain dump any negative thoughts or worries onto paper, then throw it away
- Set your things out the night before
