Loving Tan vs. St Tropez is one of the hottest topics. So I’ll give you my take. Ideally, every one wants to have that gorgeous and glowing tan. Regardless if it’s from natural sun or the help of self-tanner.
In my opinion, self-tanner is the way to go. It’s perfect for a year round tan without needing to expose yourself to artificial tanning via a tanning bed or hours in the sun.
Not only is self-tanner better for the safety of your skin and health, but by adding a little bit of color, it can make you feel more confident. I’m not quite sure what the psychology is behind this, but it’s seriously so true.
A good complimentary glow will make the colors and details of your outfit emerge, plus darker skin tones seem to flatter your shape by deceiving the eye. Don’t ask me how this works because I’m not sure lol but it looks as if your body is more contoured. Giving you a more dimensional look.
Today’s post is all about comparing St Tropez and Loving Tan! I’m giving you both product reviews with bullet point summaries as well as my overall pick!
I truly hope this post serves you well so you can pick the best self tanner for yourself!
Loving Tan
First off, let me begin by saying I have been using Loving Tan Express for the past few years. Needless to say, when I decided to switch it up and try something else that I had seen advertised, I was a little skeptical.
Reasons to love Loving Tan? First off it lasts me quite a while! Roughly 7-9 days depending on how well I moisturize my skin throughout the week. (Moisturizing is soooo essential to maintaining an even non-flaky tan).
Loving tan starts out in a liquid form in the bottle. Then it turns into a foam mousse via the pump. The foam is light and airy and is super easy to apply and spread evenly. After doing a full coat head to toe, you are able to build ontop of it for an even darker shade.
I recommend grabbing the machine washable application mitt that I have! It not only protects your hands, it gives you a flawless application and it’s super easy to throw in the washing machine after each use.
When applying this tanner, DO NOT use straight lines, it’ll streak.
It’s superrrr important to use a circular motion with light to medium pressure.

St Tropez
I’m the kind of person who doesn’t like change. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I tried St Tropez (saint-tro-pay) Express for the first time. They offer multiple formulas, however, theirs is a little bit different.
St Tropez Mousse offers are:
The classic mousse is applied and left for 4-8 hours. The express mousse can be left on for 1-3 hours.
Each provides a different shade. One hour is light, two hours is medium and three hours is dark. I personally buy the St Tropez Express and leave it on for three hours. Color will continue to develop after it is washed off.

Pros of St Tropez
- More affordable-bigger bottle for less money
- Final shade is a deeper overall color
- No color residue on towels/sheets
- Mousse and gel options
- Less of a DHA odor
Cons of St Tropez
- Slightly harder application for beginners
- Green tinted color guide that fades as it’s spread
- Somewhat orange tint once the tan is dried on skin
- Less subtle appearance at edges due to rigid blend-ability
- Shows in open pores (even after exfoliating and shaving the day before)
What is the best self tanner on the market?
Regardless of which pro or con list is longer, these are both great products and I’m going to call both of them winners.
They each have characteristics that I LOVE and some that I also don’t really prefer.
I’m definitely a “go with what I know” kind of girl so I have to stick with my gut and choose my routine of Loving Tan.
I would gladly support either of the two self tanners, but if I had to put my name against a recommendation it would definitely be LOVING TAN! 🙂
