This post is about the best Colleen Hoover books ranked!

Who doesn’t love a new great book?! Colleen Hoover is a breakout best-selling author whose books fall into multiple genres. Mainly in young adult fiction but expanding across romance novels to thrillers. Erotic literature to suspense.
I can honestly see how some people find Colleen Hoover’s books controversial based upon them blanketing more than 11 different genres and discussing sensitive subjects from raw romances, abusive relationships, domestic violence, mature themes and even child abuse. Even though Colleen Hoover’s books could be seen as controversial or toxic, the way she portrays them solidifies her ability to write about important topics in a meaningful way.
I personally can’t find one book of hers that has tanked.
She sold more books in 2022 than DOCTOR FREAKING SEUSS. Like… mindblown.
Colleen Hoover began as a struggling writer, making nine dollars an hour as social worker.
(Bless her heart, she used her life experiences – you’ll see when you read these books – for good in helping others!! Insert hard crying emoji here!!!)
Colleen’s first novel Slammed – which she self published…. what a badass – debuted in 2012, with two more books wrapping up the Slammed series by summer 2013. Colleen Hoover had no idea her life was about to change dramatically. Since the Slammed series.. Colleen has written soooo many popular series.
By the end of 2022, she had FIVE out of the top TEN New York Times bestseller list books.
I wanted to give you some background as to whyyyy Colleen Hoover is a bestselling author of all time! But I’ll save your eyeballs for what you’re here for….. the best colleen hoover books ranked! I’ve tied in some Goodreads rating reviews as well for more than just my own opinion!
This blog post is all about the best colleen hoover books ranked so you can find your next contemporary romance novel, thriller or drama filled novel!

Best Colleen Hoover Books Ranked:
These are top seven best Colleen Hoover books ranked in order! No matter which one you choose, you’re going to have such a hard time putting them down!!
7. It Starts with Us
The sequel to It Ends with Us (read this books review first so no spoilers **although I carefully try to not spoil any part of these books**) .
It Starts with Us, was the publishers MOST PRE-ORDERED BOOK EVERRRRR.
It picks up with Lily and Atlas’ story. Side note, I love how on the back of the book Colleen put “Before It Ends with Us, It Started With Atlas”… Ahhhh my heart!!! <3
You’ll quickly notice how Colleen alternates chapters in this book between Lily’s perspective and Atlas’ perspective. This continues throughout other books of Colleen Hoovers. At first I didn’t know how to feel about it, but as the story progresses, you’ll see the story line flows effortlessly between the two viewpoints.
In my opinion, Atlas is a true book character “hero” so it was great to hear his side of the story. Y’all will love and freaking adore him!
Although this book has complex storylines varying from Ryle and Lily trying to navigate a co-parenting relationship for their young daughter, to someone appearing into Atlas’ life.. there is no lack of drama or satisfaction as you’re reading.
GOODREADS REVIEWS:
“THIS WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED AND MORE. goodbye. i’m so happy.
“you’re going to drive five miles just to give me a hug?”
“i’d run five miles just to give you a hug.” <3 “”
– Larissa, Goodreads Review
“Y’all I highlighted 77 parts of this book. It was PERFECTION. Honestly everything was ever wanted and more. It was a beautiful story with Altas and Lily and how they found their way to each other so naturally. The way their story evolved and their characters evolved was also SO beautiful.”

6. Hopeless
Hopeless is the first of four books in the Hopeless series. Another romance novel that probably reminds alot of us of our first love scenario.
Dean Holder is man who infiltrates high school senior Sky’s life. The first impression she gets from Dean, makes her stead-fast in staying at arms distance from him. In their own ways, they’re both flawed and damaged.
But something about Dean reminds Sky of her past and tempts her to find out what bond could be created.
Sky doesn’t know that Dean’s life is filled with more than one dark secret and when she find outs, Sky has to decide if she wants to believe in something that could be hopeless or succumb to the lies.
I can’t say this was my favorite book that CoHo has written, but when it comes to underdogs in a love story, I’m all in! Will they or won’t they have a happy ending? 😉
GOODREADS REVIEWS:
“IF I COULD GIVE THIS BOOK 6 STARS I WOULD. I think this is my new favorite Colleen Hoover book. I love Dean Holder and Sky so so so much. This book was absolutely heartbreaking and so shocking at so many parts. I cannot wait to read Loosing Hope.”
– Ali, Goodreads Review
“Hopeless – Having no hope, bleak, despairing….isn’t that what it means to be hopeless??…But I learnt a different meaning of Hopeless recently….that sometimes being hopeless can mean so much more….”

5. November 9
This book is extremely popular. It seems as if every book of Colleen Hoover’s has some form of heart break in it. LOL I mean whats “love” without pain?
November 9 is no different.
The main characters in this book Fallon and Ben find theirselves in an untimely attraction the day before Fallon’s last day in Los Angeles. Ben is an up and coming novelist and stumbling upon Fallon – in her event filled life – means a spark in the creativity he was needing for his new novel.
Because life gets in the way and they lead separate lives of their own, after one night together they choose to meet up every year on the same day… November 9.
That is until Fallon realizes that something about Ben could be off. She wrestles with the thoughts of Ben being truthful or falsifying a perfect reality all for a plot twist in his own novel.
This book keeps you on your toes with all of the unexpected ways that Ben and Fallon affect each others lives!!
GOODREADS REVIEWS:
“WOW. WOW. WOW!!!! November 9 blew me away!!! I read it in one sitting with my heart racing the whole time!! The story was SO unique and unexpected that it took me completely by surprise over and over again!! I swooned, I fell in love, my heart was broken, and then healed again. And THE TWIST!!!!! Holy hell, that twist!!! Total shocker but I LOVED it. This book was perfect from cover to cover and definitely one of the BEST BOOKS of the year!! 5 stars!!”

“The perfect blend of sexiness, emotion and intrigue. It’s Colleen’s best, most exciting book to date.”

4. Reminders of Him
Reminders of Him has such a powerful main character story line.
Kenna Rowan spent five years in prison from a tragic accident and she’s now out. Returning home to where it all happened, Kenna’s determined to rekindle her relationship with her four-year-old daughter.
She tries to prove herself to everyone she left behind and show that she can be a part of her daughter’s life. BUT the bridges Kenna burnt are showing they’re impossible to fix.
Kenna comes to find that a local bar owner, Ledger Ward is one – if not the – last person, not burned. Ledger finds himself in a precarious situation as he becomes an important part of Kenna’s life.
Reminders of Him is full of emotion – as are all of them LOL. But it’s about gloom, making amends and possibly finding love along the way.
GOODREADS REVIEWS:
“well. once again, CoHo had me crying ugly tears at 2am because thats just the kind of author she is.
i felt different reading this one. instead of the usual butterflies and heart flutters her books normally give me, this feels very raw and heavy. its definitely a life story more than it is a love story.
i will say that although kennas determination to be a good mom to her daughter is worth reading about, ledger totally steals the show. he is put in an unfathomable position and i think CoHo has written his character very well.
so even though this didnt make me feel as light-hearted as i usually do with her books, i did feel something. admiration. grief. hope. discouragement. anger. but also happiness. it ends on a good note. <3″
– Jessica, Goodreads Review
“It’s definitely in my top books from CoHo. I’m a diehard AYP fan so I feel like that’ll always be number one but dare I say this makes second slot for my fave?”
– Pauline, Goodreads Review

3. Ugly Love
This brings me to Ugly Love! I’ve been dying to get to this review. I DID NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN ONCE I STARTED READING IT. Literally finished it in ONE Saturday!!! Haha yes I spent an entire Saturday reading a novel. Because it was THAT. DAMN. GOOD.
Tate Collins is a nurse studying for her Masters ( so i can relate to her lifestyle in this book LOL ). She moves in with her brother while she’s in school. And unexpectedly finds herself in a mutual attraction, let’s be upfront – mutual physical attraction – with an airline pilot Miles Archer. I mean that in itself just sounds hot haha.
Miles drives Tate crazy right off the bat with his secretive, yet sexy demeanor. Once they make things known that Miles doesn’t want a relationship and Tate doesn’t have time for one due to school, they discover a no-strings-attached arrangement.
But the only thing Tate has to live up to.. are Miles two rules.
Never ask about the past and don’t expect a future. Harshhhh.
Eight words on this one.
Hearts. Promises. Rules and Love.
Infiltrated, Shattered, Broken and Ugly.
Leading to…. Ugly Love.
GOODREADS REVIEWS:
“HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER!!!! MY HEART IS SO PERFECTLY BROKEN! I DON’T THINK I TOOK A BREATH THE WHOLE TIME I READ THIS BOOK! WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME COLLEEN HOOVER!!! I HATE YOU BUT I LOVE YOU! YOU RUINED ME AND I CAN’T THANK YOU ENOUGH!
IF YOU CAN’T GUESS IT BY MY NON STOP CAPS THEN I DON’T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO THAN SCREAM “I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!”
WOW JUST WOW! I DON’T KNOW HOW OR WHEN I’LL GET OVER THIS BOOK HANGOVER.”
– Angela, Goodreads Review
“Colleen Hoover has done it again. Not that I ever doubted her, but I didn’t know what to expect when starting Ugly Love. It’s safe to say she never disappoints. With her amazing writing style, fascinating characters and original story lines, I was hooked from the beginning. I expected to love this book. What I wasn’t expecting was for my heart to be shredded.”
– Christy, Goodreads Review

2. Verity
Down to number two in this best books of colleen hoover list!!
YOU GUYS…. my stomach literally churned at the ending. Haha. From this entire list, this is a MUST-READ!!
Verity is a thriller from CoHo! This thriller novel is about Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who accepts a new position. Quite frankly, the job offer of a lifetime. From none other than Jeremy Crawford. The husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford.
Verity was severely injured and was unable to finish her remaining books. So Jeremy invites Lowen to their house to read through all of Verity’s notes in hopes that she’ll find enough to accomplish the job.
But Lowen is the only person who has stumbled across an autobiography that Verity started, that she never planned for anyone to read. An autobiography that goes into disturbing detail about the night their family was changed forever.
Lowen tries to keep it hidden from Jeremy but as her feelings towards him start to progress (go figure due to all the time she’s spending there!!) … she thinks if Jeremy knew the horrifying details Verity was writing, that it wouldn’t be so easy for him to stay with her even though she was injured.
This is a popular stand-alone book that many of us couldn’t put down!! It can be a little disturbing, so reader beware. There were parts I literally cringed at and almost put down. But stick with it!!
GOODREADS REVIEWS:
“Me, rollerblading into my therapist’s office with heart-shaped sunglasses and a piña colada and dropping this book on the desk with a loud thud: Boy do we have much to talk about today!
Why read Verity when you can just pull out an Ouija board and summon a demon from hell? I’m sure it’ll have the same effect. I finished this book feeling completely sapped of life, as if I’ve been bleeding freely for the past few hours instead of simply reading. That ending. What the hell. If I could just shake my head to dissolve the memory of it, to disarrange it somehow, I would. Because of all the things I’d braced myself for, that was not it.”
– Chai, Goodreads Review
“Bold. Unrelenting. All-consuming. Creepy. Unputdownable.”
– Melissa, Goodreads Review

1. It Ends with Us
THIS. FREAKING. BOOK. y’all… once again, I finished it in FOUR working days. LOL. It was actually the first Colleen Hoover book I read and I was hooked from the first chapter. Work just got in the way of my ability to read it faster haha!
First off… Colleen Hoover wrote this book based off of the relationship between her mother and father. She says it was the hardest book she’s ever written. Rightfully. I can see why!
I was eager. Then mad. I cried. Then I felt joy. It truly brings ALL of the emotions.
It Ends with Us the first book of a two part series follows the story of Lily Bloom a recently graduated college student who moves to Boston. Lily’s life has it’s ups and downs – starting with an early childhood of witnessing domestic violence. Now that Lily’s starting her life post college, she embarks on a new relationship with a guy she meets.
Two words… Ryle Kincaid. The man who has a “no dating” policy.
Ryle is a handsome neurosurgeon who quickly grabs Lily’s attention. Like hellllllo, can ANY of us blame Lily? I think not. 😉
As Lily and Ryle’s love story is developing, her first love, Atlas Corrigan pops back up and creates a plot twist for this new found love.
While I don’t support toxic behaviors nor any kind of violence – this is straight from the heart of Colleen Hoover’s past experiences. This best seller depicts how lasting the effects of abusive relationships can be and it’s extremely eye opening.
The amount of peaks and valleys of this book had me on my toes. USA Today calls it “glorious and touching”.
Needless to say…this is one of the best books I’ve ever read and you will NOT be able to put it down. But as soon as you’re done… start. the second book, It Starts with Us.
GOODREADS REVIEWS:
“A part of me wants to forget this raw, powerful, inspirational, beautiful and ugly book. But the dominant part, even though it suffers, is glad I read it and learned.
To every single person out there, READ IT.
To every woman in Lily’s place, BE BRAVE AND BOLD.
To Colleen Hoover, THANK YOU. For sharing this with us. With me.”
– Katerina, Goodreads review
“Finding out how important this book was for her to write will hit you hard, but I hope she also knows how important it is as a reader to read. Knowing where an author gets their ideas from can change your whole outlook on a book, and this one… this one broke me.”
– Anglea, Goodreads review

Wrapping up this best colleen hoover books ranked list, I want to take a second to talk about the bookstore Colleen Hoover created. I love when successful people give back. Especially when it’s going towards something they once struggled with.
The Bookworm Box is a local bookstore in Sulphur Springs, Texas. This is a bookstore and monthly subscription service that offers signed novels from so many new and upcoming authors.
The Bookworm Box supports various charities by being a nonprofit organization who donates 100% – one hundred percent you guys!! – of their profits to charities in need. They’ve also helped over 500 authors get their books out in front of readers eyes.
The Bookworm Box is a monthly box subscription with an autographed book in each box.
Check out The Bookworm Box here to snag next month’s box.
